A very nice quality and excellent condition mahogany cased longcase clock by James Wittit, London, mid 18th century
Unusual finely carved ribbon decoration, bow quiver & arrows, to trunk door and base.
The 8 day movement is a fine quality 5 pillar example with strike/silent. It is in fully overhauled condition.
Movement, dial, and case all strongly appear contemporary.
It has a very desirable brass dial in excellent condition, having a matted centre, fine mask and foliage spandrels, plus dolphin spandrels either side of the strike silent lever in the arch. The hands are perfect and nicely blued.
The case is in excellent original condition with maintenance repairs carried out by a BAFRA accredited restorer. All joints and parts are sound, the hood fits well, the locks work and all is as it should be.
The polish is in fine condition with a great patina. The hood has turned columns with gilt wooden bases and capitals, and blind fretted side panels.
Overall this is a very handsome, nicely proportioned clock with nothing to detract from its desirability.
The clock can be delivered and set up if within a reasonable distance of Bishop’s Stortford, Herts
For further afield, please check with me, additional costs may apply.
The movement can be offered with a year guarantee in terms of its present overhauled state, but not future wear and tear or user error. Movement must be returned to me for this to apply.
I have/will have two further unusual and equally nice longcase clocks listed for sale.
